I think there's a good chance I'll be there.
It's only about three hours from Los Gatos.
And outdoors in September should be lovely.
~ rich

It should be very lovely. Look forward to seeing you Rich. Smiley

You folks are so lucky!! That is going to be a great show! Have lots of fun! Smiley

I think our East Coast friends are the LUCKIEST but we gotta take what we can get.  Wish you could join us but I totally get it...too far to travel for a short set on a week night.

Love that Mr. Jukebox. Definitely reminiscent of early Mavs. An earworm for sure.

Weird Thought Thinker is a cool as well. I can see people waltzing to it at Gruene Hall. (I don't know if it's actually a waltz but sounds like it might be).

Thanks for sharing here, Adele.  Smiley

We are THRILLED that The Mavericks and Los Lobos will be playing at the very lovely Vina Robles Amphitheater in Paso Robles on September 13th, Kathy's birthday. What a way to celebrate! A night of epic music under the stars. Soooo looking forward to it. Even though it will be a shorter set because I believe they are opening for Los Lobos it's so fantastic to have a local show that I don't have to travel to see.  Cool

I can understand folks not wanting to travel for a short set but if you're a Los Lobos fan as well as a Maverick's fan it would be great to see ya at the show. You'll love this venue and the beautiful wine country of Paso Robles.

I would like to offer this suggestion "All Over But The Shoutin" by Rick Bragg

A good friend of mine highly recommends it and I plan to read it soon.

A New York Times Notable Book of the Year

This haunting, harrowing, gloriously moving recollection of a life on the American margin is the story of Rick Bragg, who grew up dirt-poor in northeastern Alabama, seemingly destined for either the cotton mills or the penitentiary, and instead became a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for The New York Times. It is the story of Bragg's father, a hard-drinking man with a murderous temper and the habit of running out on the people who needed him most.

But at the center of this soaring memoir is Bragg's mother, who went eighteen years without a new dress so that her sons could have school clothes and picked other people's cotton so that her children wouldn't have to live on welfare alone. Evoking these lives--and the country that shaped and nourished them--with artistry, honesty, and compassion, Rick Bragg brings home the love and suffering that lie at the heart of every family. The result is unforgettable.

Looks good, Crista!

It feels nostalgic being back here for a reason other than my Mavs show is coming soon, and I'm getting revved up:)  That's usually when I post, once a year Grin  But I did want to express how much this forum meant to me in the early days of my Raul (and Mavs) obsession.  It was a place you could validate your feelings with others:)  Now when I go to a concert in Minneapolis, I'm still kind of surprised the crowd is so big, and the roar when they come out is so loud.  I'm so happy for them that they've found the success they have, and I am grateful that there are still Fans on here that I've met, or wished I had met.

I've recently been house-bound with a broken femur (for 5 months) and you can guess what one of my major concerns has been, will I ever be able to climb the stairs at the State Theatre in Mpls again!  Well, it looks like I will, and not many things give me that much joy(other than my family, of course).

Happy that the Forum is alive and well.

Love, Iowa Ruth

So sorry about your injury. Glad you are on the mend!

I will most likely be spending lots of my summer vacation with my Mom in northern Nevada. Looking forward to that. Right when I get off work for the summer, my co-worker and I are going to a training in Colorado. Looking forward to that.

Summer vacation? Funny but being retired for so long (11 years in June) EVERYDAY is summer vacation here. And San Diego is pretty much summer year round so I'm good. What's your pleasure, Vac-kay or Stay-kay?

Both appeal to me. The older I get the more I appreciate the simple pleasures of a staycation.

We're planning to go visit relatives in Croatia this summer. Should be pretty interesting. We'll spend a few days on the coast as well at the end of our trip.

Croatia is stunning.  Hopefully you'll get to Dubrovnik, which is, hands down probably one of the most picturesque little cities I have ever seen.  There's also a little village up in Istria that looks straight out of a fairytale - Rovinj.  Rent a bicycle and ride through the olive tree groves.  I hear the seafood is particularly good (not for me though!).

This year I had my heart set on going on an expedition to Antarctica departing from Montevideo, Uruguay.  But the boss put the kibosh on that when I asked for three weeks off.  Boo.  So instead I am going 180° in the opposite direction toward the north pole, or just shy of it anyway - Svalbard, which sits just below 80°N in the Arctic Ocean.  It will be a polar bear/wildlife expedition cruise.  After that, I fly to Ilulissat, Greenland (by way of Oslo and Copenhagen), where I will do lots of hiking, checking out glaciers, fjords, icebergs, the icecap, and hopefully some northern lights in Kangerlussuaq.

No, the Mavericks are not playing Greenland... as far as I know!

You'll have to share a recap of your trip. It sounds exciting and wonderful. There are so many wild and wondrous places to visit! One of these days I'll have my traveling shoes on...

A good friend of mine invited me to visit friends whom I've met to visit their home in Toronto. I've never been to Canada so I'm excited! The plan is to go in August for a week.

Should be very beautiful in August. Enjoy!
