April 30 will be Johnny Horton's 87th birthday. One of the only other voices to ever amaze and captivate me as much as Raul's is Johnny's. When people think of Johnny, they mostly think of a handful of saga songs: The Battle Of New Orleans, North To Alaska, Sink The Bismark, and When It's Springtime In Alaska (it's forty below). All great songs, huge hits, but I don't think they were his best. Johnny made some of the best records of his day, decade, century. Numerous "cool" artists such as Dwight Yoakam, Chris Isaak, etc...have cited him as heavy influences. I either saw, imagined or dreamed back in the 90's that the Mavericks cited him as influences as well.
Anyway, here are a few of my favorite not so well known songs of Johnny's, that I can find videos for. I can indulge myself a bit here because I don't think too many people read the "other artists" forum. *lol*
